Product Details

A wonderfully chunky buckle ring set with two rubies and a single old cut diamond. Unfortunately the hallmarks have been flooded with solder when previously sized and the hallmarks cannot be read. We suspect this to have a good bit of age however thanks to its weight and style of manufacture. Modern versions of the buckle ring have hollow heads or are cast as one piece. We are able to see that the detailing of this ring, being the buckle and the strap aspect of the design are made separately and attached as well as the engraving having been done by hand. Based on all these things and the condition of the stones I suspect the ring to be made before the second World War, possibly as early as Late Victorian into the Edwardian era.

Metal: 18ct yellow gold.

Marks: Only the remnants of the hallmarks are visible. Nothing distinguishable unfortunately but tests fully confirm 18ct gold.

Measurements: The buckle being the widest part of the ring measures just shy of 11mm. The main body of the ring measures 8mm wide where the gemstones are set and narrows slightly to 7.5mm at the back of the finger.

Stones: Two faceted rubies star set either side of an old cut diamond approximately 0.03ct.

Weight: 13.3 grams.

Condition: Very good. The hallmarks are a shame but that is the nature of the beast with old items. The rubies have ever so slight wear to their facets and the diamond has a very small chip in it. It is these bits of wear and tear that allow us to age the ring.

Finger size: UK V - US and Canada 10 5/8.
