Burmese ruby and diamond three stone ring

A fairly modern pre-owned ruby and diamond three stone ring modelled in 18ct gold. This ring features a 1.62ct ruby centre stone of Burmese origins in a rub-over setting with a millgrain finish. Each side is a modern brilliant cut diamond, one of 0.65ct and the other 0.66ct, both in eight claw settings. A fairly large finger size, this was a specially made piece for it’s previous owner. The ruby has been independently assessed and does show signs of heat treatment, as the vast majority of rubies are. It is however just heat treatment which is a permanent treatment. Corundum (sapphire & ruby) are heated at the point of mining, before cutting. Three things can happen during heating, firstly it is possible that nothing happens and there are not improvements, secondly the crystal can break or lastly the colour will increase in intensity and become improved. If when the crystal is mined and the colour is already good enough, the risk of heating the stone is not taken.
