Vintage 9ct Gold FumSup Good Luck Charm
An amazing little charm that we were particularly excited to acquire, as it’s one we hadn’t had the pleasure of seeing up close before.
FumSup charms became hugely popular during the Second World War, representing good luck, hope and protection. They were often given to soldiers as a small token of luck and a reminder of loved ones before heading off to war and whilst serving on the front lines.
Contemporary advertising described Fumsup as “The little Charm That Brings Good Luck”, promoting them as thoughtful Christmas gifts for servicemen at home and abroad. An original advert by Gourdel, Vales & Co. in London highlights their intended meaning as symbols of hope and good fortune, and confirms that 9ct gold versions were available.
Produced in a variety of designs and materials, these charming little talismans are instantly recognisable by the distinctive FumSup inscription to the front. This particular example bears the registered design number Rd 66312 to the reverse.
Crafted in 9ct yellow gold with a hollow construction, this is a lovely little piece of wartime-inspired jewellery, with both historical interest and a wonderful sense of nostalgia.
A charming and collectible piece, perfect to wear, gift or add to a collection of vintage and military-related jewellery.
