Vintage Syn Ruby & Natural Diamond Ring – SOLD

£265.00

A vintage mid 20th Century cluster ring modelled in 18ct gold. These were not uncommon as they were made in fairly high numbers during the late 1950s and early 1960s however finding them now in good condition is fairly unique. The ruby is synthetic and as much as that is a dirty word in the jewellery industry it is totally right for the piece. Synthetic stones allowed manufacturers to make high quantities of standardised items and synthetics date back to the Victorian era. We describe them as synthetic, others retailers now use fancy almost misleading terminologies, a common one is Verneuil Ruby or Sapphire. The term Verneuil comes from the scientist who invented the Verneuil process of synthesising corundum (the parental gemstone family of ruby and sapphire).
