Victorian opal & diamond pendant – SOLD

A wonderful-looking flower pendant set with opals and diamonds. We suspect this did not start out life as a pendant but an earring. Having one being lost it was common practice to turn the remaining one into a pedant rather than commission a replacement to be made. We do not know when this was done but the main body of the piece is Victorian craftsmanship.

18ct gold.
Unmarked. Tests 18ct.
Eight oval opals which we suspect are most likely from old opal mines of Czechoslovakia. They are fairly transparent yet exhibit good blue colours. A central old cut diamond approximately 0.05ct, surrounded by eight 0.01ct old cut diamonds totalling approximately 0.13ct.
29mm tall including the bale, 16.2mm wide.
2.79 grams.
Excellent. We have built up the bale at the top of the pendant as this was worn pretty thin. An easy restoration job giving decades of life back into the pendant.
