Victorian Banded Agate Memorial Brooch

£150.00

A highly cherished piece. This is a prime example of a piece of mourning jewellery from the Victorian era. A fashion that was extremely popular during this period of time. It was not uncommon for grieving family members to have jewellery made baring the hair of their lost loved one. This came in many forms, rings, necklace & lockets, hair accessories and brooches etc. This particular brooch has a locket compartment on the back where the pin lies where I piece of hair would have been stored of the departed person. The front of the brooch which reads in black enamel ‘In Memory of” also showcases a banded agate stone in the centre. You may see from the images that this also has four pieces of led around the agate. We believe this would have stored part of the brooch for decoration but has since been lost. However, we still believe that this brooch is in amazing condition considering the age of the piece and would hate to see it go to waste.
