Georgian Wedgwood & Bentley Black Basalt ring – SOLD

The basalt stone intaglio depicts Prince Frederick, Prince of Wales and Duke of Gloucester. Prince Frederick predeceased his father, King George II, and his eldest son assumed the throne on his grandfather’s death, becoming King George III. We cannot show the precise age of the ring but we are able to date the main feature as being dated between 1774 when the intaglio was first included in Wedgwood and Bentley’s catalogue, and 1780. We have provenance in the form of an email from the V&A Collection at World of Wedgwood in regards to the piece of basalt.
