Antique Diamond Set Enamelled Earrings

Originally gentleman’s shirt studs, these were screaming out to be converted into the pair of superb earrings that you see now.

Made in 18ct gold and set with a single old cut diamond in each, the guilloché enamelling is what really sets these apart from other earrings. The texture comes from the metal itself which is engraved or carved. Enamelling a spherical article is a fantastic achievement in its own right. The enamel starts out as a paste impregnated with finely ground coloured glass. Once applied it needs firing in the kiln. If the paste is watery it will run out of place before it has had a chance to bake. Once it has set it requires some expert polishing to give the high lustre shine seen here.
